New story up today! I think this may be the first time in recent history that I've actually updated on a Monday!! Thanks to my bro for putting it online for me. Soon I hope to have a little shop where you can purchase the MPDL book! Just waiting on said brother to put it together...*cough*.
My Poorly Drawn Life is back! And where have I been, pray tell? Well, I've been working on making a collected volume of my stories! I'll soon have a store set up on my site where you can purchase 400 pages of MPDL goodness! Also, I'm currently in the process of redesigning the site. I'm not sure when that will be done, though - hopefully sooner rather than later. But I bet I've lost all your trust so don't listen to what I say. Because I am a liar pants! I keep promising new updates and I don't do it! But this time I mean it. Really. Stay tuned...
Ok..... so far my 2008 resolution of updating weekly has not proven to be effective. And I do realize that the comic I just put up today is for Hourly Comic Day which was 2 MONTHS AGO EXACTLY!! AAAAAAAHHH!!! But- it is one of my longest comics yet, so I hope you'll enjoy, nonetheless. And next week there will be an update... about a black dog. You'll see!
Hello hello! So far so good with my 2008 update-my-webcomic-weekly-resolution (even if it's a day late...) My next goal is to figure out how to put an RSS Feed button thingie on my webcomic so people can become quickly aware of updates. But, alas, I have no idea how to do that. I better ask my nerdy friends for help...
I'm baaaaack! Yes, I said back, and with a 2008 resolution to be more timely with my web-comic updates (sounds familiar, doesn't it?). I do apologize for letting My Poorly Drawn Life collect dust but I have to focus on my other commitments before this, which sucks, but that's life. I know a lot of my friends and family are wondering how my life in LA is going and depend on my webcomic for updates on my life. Which is probably why they probably think I've vanished off the face of the earth. But fear not! I have lots of Californian stories to tell and new people to make fun of! Stay tuned!
The results are IN! I know you people have been waiting a long time. I appreciate the very vocal (and increasingly angry) emails and personal phone calls and guilt trips I've been getting the past two months. I couldn't have done this without you all! ^_^/ I know excuses are no excuse, but I have never been so busy with (paying) work in all my life! I'm sorry to say I've almost fallen behind on some of my job-related stuff, so I've pretty much been scrambling to catch up on things and there has been no time for fun hobby comics like this. Plus, it's hard to write a funny comic when all I feel is bitterness inside. Ha! Just kidding. However, I DO appreciate all of you participating in my last comic's voting process and I'm sorry I made you wait this long to hear the results! I'm going to try and be better with future entries... even if I miss a day or two, I'll try to not let that turn into two months! o_O! I hope you'll still be reading!
I'm currently in Hotlanta, visiting my folks and preparing for a trip to Disney World! Weee! This week's slightly belated comic introduces an interactive element! Be sure to take part and let your voices be heard! Those with LJ accounts can also vote here! In other news, it turns out my trusty MPDL pen did not respond well to the plane flight here. This is the second time I've had this particular brand of pen explode on me following a flight! Geez! Now it looks like I have some cool wine-colored birthmarks all over my hands! It is my mark of shame for being so late with this week's comic!
It's back! After weeks of being in transit and searching mountains of boxes for my scanner, My Poorly Drawn Life is back with a MEGA update! That's right -- it's my longest story yet -- 21 pages! By the way, for a comic that is intended to be a "quick" exercise, it took me all friggin day to draw! Oh well, guess I had a lot to say! Thanks everyone for your patience and for your (frequent) reminders that I hadn't updated in a while! ^_^
AAAH! I am SO sorry I haven't been updating the last couple weeks. I am beside myself with STRESS!!!! I'm on the verge of making The Big Move, but all these comic conventions keep getting in the way!! And then when I return from said comic conventions, I'm scrambling to keep up with my Sabrina work. AND I just signed on to do a project for Tokyopop! There is just way too much on my plate right now. But trust me, once this all simmers down I WILL be making Poorly Drawn comics about the insanity of it all!
Anyway, I had a fun time in Toronto last weekend, but forgot my Poorly Drawn Sketchbook so I wasn't able to draw new stories in my downtime. T_T
I won't make that mistake again as I attend the Heroes Con in North Carolina! I'm definitely going to get some of these stories out of my brain and onto paper where they belong!!
(I do apologize for the over-zealous use of exclamation marks! I am going into meltdown!!) See you soon. ^_^
It's been a while since I've added anything to the News page, so I'd like to apologize in advance if my webcomic is not always on time these next few weeks. As you know from reading My Poorly Drawn Life, I'm getting ready to move to sunny California and I have a lot of packing to do and conventions to attend within the next month -- plus a visit to LA to see Will over Memorial Day weekend! Yay! I'll finally have more fodder for my stories!
and Will is going to return to NY to share a table with me at the MoCCA Art Fest, New York June 23-24! We'll be selling Mangaka Americas, his awesome posters and a new top-secret project we've both been working on!
Con season is always a good time. Come visit me, ok?! I'll do a poorly drawn sketch for FREE! Woooo.
Awwww yeah! The Honeymoon saga is finally at an end. I can't wait to move on with stories of Will's Hobo Lifestyle (WHL) in LA. Intrigued? Well you just gotta wait till next week.
Now, the exciting thing is that MPDL has been getting some good press lately! Brigid of Mangablog fame gave MPDL a loverly review over at Digital Strips! Thanks for the support, Brigid!
Then just recently, a good friend of mine AND one of the earliest readers of MPDL, Matt Herring, along with his partner in crime, Brian, reviewed MPDL in a recent Secret Identity podcast. Thanks for the props, Mattman and Brian!
And I have fan art to share with you! Yes, my crappy comic has actually received fan art. Actually, better than fan art, it's a fan comic by a young man named Justin who I met at last year's San Diego Comic Con. Check it out!
Thanks Justin! A little good natured hate goes a long way! Keep drawrin' those hands!
Just a quick note to let you all know that this week's story is online. It's a short one this week because I've been busy helping Will get ready for his big move! What move? Well, read the comic and find out, dangit!
Welcome to the new News page! The other one was giving me a headache so I thought it was time to switch to livejournal, something I feel much more comfortable with! I transfered all my old news to this account... not that anyone cares.
Anyway!
As you see, this week's entry is a continuation of my honeymoon saga. Some people might be skeptical about the haunted bamboo forest, but it's true! In fact, I have proof!
Here's a couple videos I took with my camera in the forest. Obviously, it was completely pitch black in the forest, so there's really nothing to look at. But if you turn up your volume, in the first video you can hear the bamboo drum, and in the second you can hear the ghostly chanting!
My Poorly Drawn Life started about a year ago when i participated in "Hourly Comic Day" on February 1st, 2006 (check the first comic in the archives!). There was another Hourly Comic Day this year as well, but alas, I was too buried with deadlines to stop every hour and draw a comic about it. (It would have been boring, anyway!). But even though I missed the official event, I still plan to mark MPDL's anniversary with an hourly comic - so keep an eye out for that!
I know what you're all wondering: "Where is My Poorly Drawn Life??". Well, rest assured, it's not gone. Life just got in the way and I haven't been able to update the past month. But!! I have been continuing to draw comics in my trusty MPDL sketchbook in the meantime and they just need to be scanned and put online. Since I secretly loathe scanning and preparing the pages for web, my brother Derek has graciously volunteered to be my personal web monkey! He will take care of all the technical stuff while I concentrate on the fun part - making comics! Be prepared for a BIG update this coming Monday!
Hey everyone! I know I'm late once again. Thanks to my honeymoon (and *cough*Wii*cough*)I'm sort of falling behind on everything right now, so it's gonna take a little while to get back on track. For those who have written me emails about this webcomic - I truly appreciate your support! I did an extra-long story for this week which I hope you'll enjoy!
The honeymoon's over! Both literally and figuratively. MPDL has been on a bit of a hiatus but now it's back! Hopefully you'll enjoy the next few stories which will most likely be about our trip to Japan.
Also, a side-note: I'll be at the upcoming Big Apple Comic comic con National in NYC the weekend of Nov 18-19, so if you're in the area, stop by and get a poorly drawn sketch!
Wow, this week's story took me longer than I expected. I actually did start it on Monday - but didn't finish it until now - 2:15 am on Tuesday morning. It's a 12 page doozy about my experience at MangaNEXT. Now, I may poke fun at the convention, but I know a lot of people worked hard to put it together and I'm truly honored that they asked me to be a guest. And my pal John, aka the Teen-Titans Guy, got me a great spot in Artists' Alley where I got to promote my work! I hope they continue to hold MangaNEXT in years to come and fix some of the kinks rather than throwing in the towel.
In other news, there won't be an update for a couple weeks. Why? Because I'm going on my honeymoon! I'll be leaving for Japan with Will Thursday for a 12 day trip. But I'll be keeping notes so I have some Japantastic stories for MPDL when I get back!! I'm also gonna try to organize the news page because it's starting to get ridiculously long. I know Will's been itching to give my whole website a re-design, but I think the craptacularness of my website adds to its appeal. What do you all think? Anyway, I guess that's it. I'll see you all when I return! Ja Mata!
I'm sorry for the recent hiatus. After going out of town I got sick AGAIN and worse than before with a mutated Minnesotan virus that I'm now happily transferring to Will and anyone who breathes my same air. But now I'm all better and ready to go! I hope I got this sick stuff out of my system because I'm going to Japan in 2 weeks and I don't want to wear one of those weird surgical masks. Okay, well maybe I do.
